The Ugly Behind The Media Society has created an image of how beauty is suppose to "look" like, as fools, people try their best to imitate it without thinking of the consequences. Young women are put down for their bodies not being model type and young males are put down for all having to be being muscular. The media wants the "ugly" to be the new perfect. The media has a negative effect on body image because both males and females have done damage to their bodies. A study that adolescent girls were more fearful of gaining weight than getting cancer, having a nuclear war, or losing their parents (Rader Program). 69% of girls in 5th-12th grade reported that magazine pictures influenced their idea of a perfect body shape (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders). Also the media has an affect body image negatively because if your body is not “skinny” there’s a problem. This "problem” leads into bullying and bullying leads to an eating disorder. The researchers at Beat have found the link between bullying and eating disorder is rapidly increasing, with number 67 percent since the same study was conducted two years ago. just as concerning is the fact that more than 40 percent of respondent in the 2012 study they were younger than 10 when they began to be bullied (Huffington Post).
