The Ugly Behind The Media Society has created an image of how beauty is suppose to "look" like, as fools, people try their best to imitate it without thinking of the consequences. Young women are put down for their bodies not being model type and young males are put down for all having to be being muscular. The media wants the "ugly" to be the new perfect. The media has a negative effect on body image because both males and females have done damage to their bodies. A study that adolescent girls were more fearful of gaining weight than getting cancer, having a nuclear war, or losing their parents (Rader Program). 69% of girls in 5th-12th grade reported that magazine pictures influenced their idea of a perfect body shape (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders).
