Although many characters show different themes from the epic poem The Odyssey by homer, Telemachus represents the theme of coming of age throughout the poem. He shows this theme several times in the book the odyssey. Some examples are from the beginning of the poem, while other examples are from the ending of the poem. An example of Telemachus’ coming of age is when he had helped Odysseus kill the suitors.
It helps the reader fully understand the meaning in why the author wrote the text. If used correctly literary elements can dispatch a message within the reading. In order to understand The Odyssey, one must analyze the conflict and sensory imagery that Homer uses to create such a great piece of literature. Book Nine of The Odyssey is known for the story of the Cyclopes that Odysseus and his men come across as they are on their quest to go back to Ithaca. The exposition of book nine is when Odysseus landed on the lawless Cyclops’ island.
What defines a champion? Homer tells the tales of a champion who is trying to get home to his family and does so using imagery in the story. Homer uses imagery to affect the umbrella concept of mood and characterization in The Odyssey. He does this when Odysseus fights Iros, Telémakhos finds young men drinking, and when Odysseus dodges a cow’s foot that was thrown at him. Homer uses visual imagery to set the exciting mood when Odysseus is fighting Iros.
There are many heroes in many stories but not a single one compares to how the epic hero Odysseus. The Odyssey is by the famous poet Homer is a fiction story about a king who is coming back from War and the quest back takes 20 years. Odysseus is an epic hero because he has done many heroic acts and his Larger than Life quality is his intelligence. Many people share the argument that Odysseus is not a hero but there's parts of the story that make me disagree. The part is when Odysseus and his men get trapped in the Cyclops cave and Odysseus has to use his larger than life quality to save them.

In the first instances of drastic changes to Odysseus mental state they are severely influenced by physicality of home. One example occurs as Odysseus and his crew are given a magical ship that would take them directly to Ithaca. The fact that Odysseus does not tell his men what is in the bag reveals that he holds the contents of the bag very highly, so much so that he even has this underlying paranoia against his esteemed crew. This secret would untimely lead to the downfall of this attempt home, which causes a rift in Odysseus’s mental state. As the bag of winds ruptures open and the crew is forced away from Ithaca, Odysseus contemplates suicide.

The Greek epic poem, the Odyssey, was told by Homer but the date of its creation is unknown. Even though the book mainly focuses on Odysseus, the monsters such as Polyphemus, have an important role. The Odyssey is an epic poem that communicates the travels of Odysseus on his way back home from war. This epic poem is used to not just tell a story, but also explain and promote the ancient Greek concepts and morals, which are highlighted in Book 9. Over the course of Book 9, Homer utilizes several stylistic techniques such as juxtaposition and diction to communicate characterization.
