The article that I chose for my RUA was “Medication adherence of homeless patients: A pilot study of cell phone effectiveness”, 2012. This article is one that allows insight into problems regarding medication adherence with patients who are homeless and how through the use of technology, specifically cells phone the incidence of adhering to a medication regime can be better improved with these patients. This is information that would be useful for any nurse to take into the workplace to begin implication of a process that would be helpful for patients who are homeless or not as well as people who do not have psychiatric problems but may have a condition that requires a consistent medication regime. This study showed that through the use of current technology such as cell phones increase the patients self-reported medication adherence, the likelihood of people being able to be stay on track with medications might just be what they need to further their progress with the diagnosis that they have. The study itself was significant and inspiring with the fact that the only factor being only a cell phone access for someone who was homeless and how that made a significant impact on the course of their treatment, many of the patients liked the cell phone not only for a reminder to take their medications but also as a way for them to keep in contact with their loved ones.
