The first issue Murray takes on is the notion that women are intellectually inferior to men. She argues that, “we can only reason from what we know, and if opportunity of acquiring knowledge hath been denied us, the inferiority of our sex cannot fairly be deduced from thence” (133), effectively blaming the imbalance of education for perceived differences in intellect. Using this line of reasoning, she furthers the idea by comparing the intellect of 2 year old children as an intuitive example. From that age forward, “the one is taught to aspire, and the other is early confined and limited. As their years increase, the sister must be wholly domesticated, while the brother is led by the hand through all the flowery paths of science” (133).
The authors in this week 's reading displayed an interestingly skillful use of logos, pathos, and ethos to help persuade the reader to share the writer 's viewpoint on gender equality. In certain works, a specific type of rhetorical appeal prevails over the others. A great example of this is Judith Sargent Murray 's "On the Equality of the Sexes." In this work, she primarily utilizes logos to support her main point that males are not mentally superior to women. Once again, logos is an appeal to logic, in which the author attempts to persuade the audience with evidence and valid reasoning.

In Daphne Beckmans essay, "Perspective on Men," the reader gets to sense how the author percieves men from the early stages of her life to when she was older and had more experience. When Beckman was younger, she percieved her father to be a "rock," he was the one to keep the family together and strong.
