The abnormal behavior, thoughts, or feelings of the person is considered to be a mental illness. They do not have any biological test to diagnose abnormality inhumans, abnormality can only be diagnosed by the professionals. The mental health experts view mental disorder as collection of problems in thinking, in emotional responding and in social behavior. Before diagnosing the abnormality psychologist consider in many factors, one of them is cultural norms because it is normal in Japan to talk to their loved one’s soul after their death, they also feed the soul, while in christianity that consider to be abnormal. The culture and gender can influence the way people express their symptoms or feelings.

The drugs improves the function of neurotransmitter system to relieve psychological symptoms. Although these drugs have many side effects. An alternative to drug therapies there is electroconvulsive therapy or ECT to treat some disorders. ECT consists of a series of treatment in which brain seizure is induced by passing electrical current through patient brain. Some studies suggested that these brain stimulation techniques can relieve symptoms of depression and auditory hallucinations in patients. Furthermore, there is psychological approach to treat the people with abnormality. Behaviorist approach focus on the influence of reinforcement and punishment in producing the behavior. since behavior theory has limitation, it is unclear if it could account for some disorder. Then there is cognitive approach, who believes reward and punishment is not sufficient to shape the behavior instead person's thoughts and beliefs shapes the behavior. Since depressed person think depressing thought it is hard to figure out the thought are the symptoms of diseases or the cause of their depression. Next comes psychodynamic approach, they suggest abnormality related to the unconscious mind. Froud suggest, when baby’s basic needs are not fulfilled while growing up then the mind is stuck at that stage, and he or she can have disorder as an adult.
