Being stranded on an island can change you. Studies have shown that it can change you and your mentality. The Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding, in September of 1954. It is about a group of young boys that get stranded on an island with no adults. Throughout the book, the boys’ go insane. Their savage behavior increased over the time they were on the island because they were influenced by their surroundings and stopped caring about getting rescued. Throughout the novel, it was clearly shown that the boys' behavior and morality changed as they became more desperate to survive and to gain power because of the environment they were forced into. Ralph and Jack are fighting over power, and Jack thinks that just because Ralph got chosen as Chief that he shouldn’t get to make all the decisions. Ralph exclaimed proudly “I'm chief. A study was done where 22 12 year old boys were “let loose” in a deserted camp to be researched by psychologists to see how they acted. The mentality of the 12 year old boys changed drastically in just six days.
