In Lord of The Flies Jack is always in conflict with another person. For example jack vs piggy and ralph. Ralph is in a constant battle with jack. In the end jack kills piggy and attempted to kill ralph. In TMDG General Zaroff is constantly trying to kill his prisoners. He kills people as a game and the people try to get away. Another similar conflict is person vs society. In LOTF Ralph is always fighting to keep the rules and the conch. Jack is always trying to disobey and get his way. Jack fights with ralph and piggy because they represent rules, adults and society. Likewise in TMDG, Zaroff speaks about how he knows that people don’t like him and his island. It’s the place where in the beginning Zaroff feels safe and in the end where Rainsford will feel safe. The next setting is jungle in LOTF, it is the scary and unknown place. It’s where they think the beast is and none of them like it at night. The hunting grounds are also a scary place. It’s scary and dangerous because real people are killed and murdered there every day. Finally, the mountain and the bedroom. The mountain is the place of hope and power. It’s where the fire is and it’s where jack and his control. The bedroom is a delicacy. It shows the power that Zaroff holds over his prey. “He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.” He feels better because he is sleeping in the power spot. "Ralph sat on a fallen trunk, his left side to the sun. On his right were most of the choir; on his left the larger boys who had not known each other before...before him small children squatted in the grass."(William Golding pg 30) This describes the feeling in this area.
