Mentally Ill Criminals In light of the opposing view, all criminals should go to jail to be punished for their wrong-doings. When someone goes against the law, he deserves to be punished for it because he failed to uphold the law. Also, when mentally ill people can plead insanity and avoid jail time, others can cheat the system. For example, the case of Kevin Johns included multiple killings after an original conviction because he was placed in a psychiatric facility rather than prison. In this case, Johns was obviously a murderer and deserved jail time. Simply put, there should be no leniency for people who go against the law (Vatz).
