Meta-Cognition Journal For this journal, I will be reflecting on my English study throughout this semester and past years. This will also be about how I have approached, reflected, extended and applied my knowledge from grade eleven English to the real world. In previous years, the focus of English courses are very different from grade eleven English. The focus of the previous courses were normally personal writing structure and different forms of prose, and it normally was about learning about rants, newspaper articles, persuasive articles, and more. The focus of grade eleven English is to dig deeper and derive hidden meanings from poetry and stories. Currently, English is also concentrated on writing analyses and annotations whereas, in past years, there was little to no analyses and annotations. There are many ways English plays a role in the past, present, and future. When reading literature there's almost always a moral, and although it might not be said outright, it is still known. With knowledge of those learnt morals, it affects everyday actions. With the changes in everyday actions, it changes who people actually are. …show more content…

I improved in my understanding literature with the help of class discussions since the start of the year. In the beginning of the semester, I could rarely figure out the theme of stories and poems. It was very difficult for me to understand the themes enough to be able to annotate the writing, but now I believe I would be able to decently annotate a piece of work. I have also come to understand even the smallest and seemingly most insignificant literary devices play a very large role in any published work. I believe I need to work on learning how to find the significance of the points I have found, and applying it to the theme. After that, I need to learn how put my thoughts into words so I can effectively support my
