These five common ideas represent how Aristotle would want us as people to contribute to our morals. More in fact how we should part take in these habits to come
Socrates is imprisoned for impiety and corrupting the youth by causing them to doubt or disregard the wisdom of their elders. Socrates friend
In the Greek literary work Apology written by Plato, Socrates was convicted for refusing to recognize the gods recognized by the state, introducing new divinities and corrupting the youth. It is believed by many critics that Socrates knew he was going to be sentenced to death so, he was able to use his defense as an opportunity to clear his reputation, confront his accusers, but most significantly instruct the Athenians. He wanted them to look into themselves and seek virtue and wisdom before looking into personal interests. We notice throughout Socrates’ defense that there is a continued theme of wisdom and teaching towards the Athenians.
“ Everything has what is innate, everything has what is necessary. ( ).Confucius encouraged positive behavior to leaders. His teachings know the role in society and by performing the duties of that role. ________( ) .
While this statement is a very interesting philosophical point, and one that will be addressed later for now this paper will ask “What does that philosophical point have to do with his innocence” Socrates claims to be wise, and his basis for saying so is, paradoxically, that he did not think himself wise. This paradox faces the jurors with a decision. Is Socrates wise or a fool? If he is wise, then he is not poisoning the minds of the youth, is not being impious, and is not guilty. In either case he should be tried as innocent.
New accusers say that Socrates corrupts the youth and does not believe in the gods of the State, and has new divinities of his own. To defend himself against these charges, Socrates asks Meletus some questions. As a result, Meletus is shown to be contradicting himself and making accusations that are absolutely absurd. To the question “Who are the improvers of the youth?” Meletus replies that they are all citizens, but not Socrates, arguing that he is only one who is corrupting them.
Plato’s Apology Response Paper Introduction The response paper on The Apology will discuss the various ideas that Socrates came up with in his book. First and foremost, the essay will discuss his philosophy regarding human traits such as human wisdom, an excellent speaker, death and unexamined life. The above Socrates ideas are significant in human lives, and therefore I will explain my opinion relating to them. In the climax, the response paper will discuss how these ideas and teachings have affected the world at large, having read the book.
I believe that Socrates may be guilty of trying to corrupt the young people because he did encourage them to ask questions and not follow others’ blindly. Socrates did not overtly challenge the gods and their word, however he did encourage people, especially young people, to make their own opinions based on various information, and, in the end, follow their own thoughts. I feel as though the types of questions Socrates was asking were not harmful because he was only testing Euthyphros on how he knew all of his facts, and wanted proof of his opinions. Therefore, I believe people should question, should analyze information, and should form their own judgments rather than listening to someone else’s opinion and blindly following that
In order to render citizen’s happiness about their position within their state as a labor, warrior, or ruler and to inspire feelings of brotherhood and patriotism, Socrates believed that a myth is required. Socrates myth’s functions as a religion, it gives meaning upon the eyes of the believers by convincing them that they have been made to perform a certain role within the world. Despite the truthfulness or falseness of myths and religions, Socrates clearly believed that societies benefit from a unified belief system whether it’s true or false. This attitude is surprising to Socrates since he proclaims that he values truth above all else. In the case of the noble lie, Socrates values the health and security of the state over truth.
Socrates is quoted as stating, “An unexamined life is a life not worth living” (38 a). Socrates was a founding figure of western philosophy, and a stable for many ideas. He lived in Athens, Greece teaching his students, like Plato, questioning politics, ethical choices, and many other things in Greek society. In the Trial and death of Socrates: Four Dialogues by Plato, it explores the abstract questioning Socrates had towards many of the normal social properties, which led to his trial, resulting in his death. The most important aspects discussed in the dialogues is the questioning of what is pious and impious, what it means to be wise, and good life.
Their rationalities are still being used today. They were incredible masterminds with awesome impact in the antiquated society. Confucianism imparts to Aristotle mindfulness that for people to be great, they require moral astuteness and in addition different demeanors of character, yet Confucianism places more prominent accentuation on the part of reflection and concentrate in the improvement of good insight (Provis, 2017). Over the next several paragraphs, it is my goal to address the following: 1)
The political elites of the west today can still see the shadow of his influence. Confucius and Plato share the similar life experience and the life pursuit. Both of them lived in the period when the slavery system declined and both of them had the ambition to create an ideal society. Therefore, through compare with Confucius and Plato’s idea, we can see there are some similarities in their concepts of philosophy and education. But contribute to the diversity of historical background and culture tradition, we can also see many differences of their thought, among which there are many sparkling points that is worth exploring.
In this instance, the children generate their own beliefs and ideas from within themselves, not through Socrates. All Socrates wants is to “take care of the young first, so that they will be the best possible, just as a good farmer properly takes care of the young plants first, and after this of the others as well” (2d, p.
Plato can be regarded as the first ever Metaphysician, as Plato is searching for the true nature of being, and believed that the world in which we live, which is the world interpreted through the senses (the material world), that is forever changing, is just an imitation of the true world, the world of ideas, that is eternal unchanging and immaterial. Plato believed that the form of an object
Appreciation of Philosophy Essay #2 Socrates vs. Sophists Believing Socrates was a Sophist can be a common misconception in Greek history. Although they have similarities, such as moving in the same circle, teaching, and having the same subject matter, there are only two given differences that set them apart. The fact that Socrates looked for objective truth through dialectic, while the Sophists believed in relative truth and taught that through rhetoric, clearly separates them. Questioning if Socrates was a Sophist is not an unintelligent question at all.
