The purpose of this essay was to compare and contrast between two story who shows similarities and differences. The R.U.R by Karel Capek and the Metropolis by Fritz Lang’s display similar elements including the references, characterization and share the similar plot. Both of the stories were written around the same time period, the R.U.R was written in 1920 and the metropolis was written in 1927 and Germany was the main origin where both the stories take place. The similar plot between both stories when in Metropolis, the workers cause a terrible flood, which causes the destruction of the entire city, whereas in the R.U.R the robots flood the island and surrounding a building, and terrible action takes place which destroyed everything. In the movie, Maria talks about the tower of Babel who is the symbol of different languages. The Metropolis and the R.U.R in both stories female character’s is the central figure and most of these two stories evolve around them. In the Metropolis Maria was the central character, and in the R.U.R the Helena who was the daughter of the president plays the central role. Both of them are the peace maker in their role, and they are against any type of violence and would choose on working out to eliminate the differences that occurred between the workers and the capitalist, and between humans and robots, and they try their best to improve the condition of all of their fellow workers. Also both stories show the relationship between femininity, technology and sexuality. Helena was beautiful, and attractive that everyone in the factory wants to marry her, and they always listened to her whatever she asked them to do. As seen in the text she has soft corners for robots when she first enters the office to enquiry about them and wished that they should be treated
