Everyone in the newly founded United States wanted life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but it wasn’t what many white people wanted to happen. Many people who sought this freedom were victims of riots and were killed for no other reason than the color of their skin. Even former run away and freed slaves fought side by side white men of the union to free all slaves even though the white men of the union treated them as lesser beings, they still fought for their freedoms. In this point in time everyone wanted one thing to be an American, but people of this period did not want everyone to have this gift, of being an American.

Through the Mexican American war started because Texas wanted to annex to the united states. In doing so this caused Mexico to attack Texas and start a two-year long war. The end of the war was because of a treaty which made it so the united states could buy Texas and a lot of other land that they needed for their growing population. The civil war was one of the most influential wars for the united states. The reason being so is it was a major turning point for anyone of color. The union who was of the north was for abolishing slavery which many felt were wrong even though they still didn’t consider them equal. The south was comprised of the confederacy which was a bunch of plantation owners who owned many slaves that tilled their fields. The north was losing at first two years after the start of the war the union allowed for runaway slaves and freed slaves to join its ranks. This was a major turning point now since white men fought alongside black men they were equal on the battlefield but not in pay. The union used the railway system they had to transport troops and food a lot easier than the south was able to. This was a major factor in the union beating the confederacy. After the war, all slavery was abolished. With all this war bloomed many positive accouple were slavery being abolished, Colored men being able to join war, and new land that has become part of the united states. …show more content…

With the ending of slavery former slaves could now enjoy what it meant to be an American. Sadly, for many former slaves this was worse since the united states government didn’t pass a law to help protect them instead they just ended slavery. Many found it tough to find jobs to support themselves. Those who found jobs often found they were underpaid and were even taken advantage of. Sadly, they couldn’t do anything about it since they weren’t a law in place that said that it could happen. A few good things about slavery being ended this meant they were now citizens and could hold office. Society soon started targeting colored people for no reason other now hate. Many Colored people were brutally killed and beaten. Three years after the civil war the 14th amendment came to be law which made it so all states had to protect its citizens that were within their borders. Society during the point in time is harsh to those of color, but soon turns good for them as they fight for equality.
