November 7, 2017... BREAKING NEWS... mass shooting reported in a small community church located in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Once the carnage was assessed a total of 26 lives were lost that day. Once again we are left to ponder how any human being could ever think of doing something this drastic and then actually follow through with these demonic thoughts. In the horror movie Halloween, the main character, Michael Myers, kills his sister at the age of seven. As the movie unfolds it is understood that Michael Myers was institutionalized only to later escape in order to return to his hometown to continue with his inner need to kill. These people are diagnosed with a mental illness such as psychosis. Most of the people who fall into this category demonstrate some outrageous behaviors, as they are unable to distinguish between right and wrong. There are many people who live with mental disorders. These mental disorders may affect mood, thinking and behaviors but those with mental disorders are able to distinguish between right and wrong. In the movie Halloween, the young Michael Myers killed his sister at the age of seven and was committed to a mental institution which makes us assume he was deemed mentally insane at that time based not only on his age but also on the brutality of the killing. Who wants to think a seven year old could actually kill and understand what they were doing? As the movie jumps ahead in time we see that an aged Michael Myers escapes the institution and returns to his hometown to continue on with his urge to kill. Michael’s actions once again lead us to believe that he is disconnected from reality and is indeed mentally insane. As Edgar Allan Poe writes of the killing of an old man we clearly learn from the killer that his reasoning is based on the old man’s eye appearance alone. The killer plans out his strategy and closely watches the old man for the perfect time to follow thru with his killing. It is once the killing has taken place that we clearly see how the killer was paranoid of the old man as the paranoia continued with the killer thinking he could hear the old man’s heart beat which led him to confess to the killing. It is clear the killer knew right from wrong so cannot be deemed mentally insane; in fact the killer makes himself clear that he was not crazy at the time of the killing; simply paranoid which is a mental illness; but a mental illness that can be treated in today’s
