Michelle Obama believes, “There are still many causes worth sacrificing for, so much history yet to be made”, which is exactly what she has devoted her 8 years as first lady towards. Michelle Obama is notable for being the wife of U.S President Barack Obama and does not hesitate to say that first and foremost she is the mother of Sasha and Malia. However, before she was a wife, mother, lawyer or U.S first lady, she was the daughter of Frasier and Marian Robinson growing up on the South Side of Chicago with her old brother, Craig. Recently this year, Obama joined her husband and U.S. President, Barack Obama to start the organization Let Girls Learn. It is a U.S. government wide enterprise that’ll support girls around the world in getting an education, which is something that she cares profoundly about. She is calling on countries all over the world to help teach and inspire young girls and she’s sharing the stories of struggles that these girls experienced with people at home in order to inspire them to continue to pursue their education. Obama strives for others around the world to hear their story and put forth effort into helping them pursue their dreams and have promising futures. Obama explains, “I have been through a lot of hardships. I know that I need to overcome them.” She said, “I’ve never thought that they are the barrier to stop me. I’ve never thought of giving up,” she said. “I never lose hope in myself” (Remarks 35). Obama grew up with many adversities, but she did not let them stop her. She is a firm believer in fighting through obstacles and never giving up. She believes that you can 't succeed without experiencing hardships. Michelle Obama has done notable, remarkable things that have benefited not only people, but also communities as a whole. A life of consequence is a reflection of your character. To live a life of consequence means to live a life in which an individual is ethical and applies what they learn in every situation that they experience. Living a life of consequence means to do influential things because you care deeply for it not for recognition or attention. A person is not measured by adversity, but by what you do with the power that you’re given. Although many of the past U.S first ladies have done remarkable things, Obama sticks out of most of them because she connects to the youth like no other first lady has. Obama’s efforts to raise the bar for education and health have been extraordinary. She has focused on matters like helping military families, supporting girls in receiving an education, and encouraging the youth to live healthier, nutritious lifestyles.
