In chapter eight of Night, Elie’s father, Shlomo, struggled with inhuman treatment more than once. He became ill and was unable to control where and when he relieved himself. Shlomo had gotten dysentery from drinking the polluted water. The other sick prisoners he was housing with were so displeased, they beat him. “Eliezer… Eliezer… tell them not to beat me… I haven’t done anything… Why are the beating me?”
The fictional book “The Midnighters: The Secret Hour by Scott Westerfeld” was interesting in its style and storyline. The author describes the setting with vivid details making it feel as if one could feel the same as the protagonists’. For example, the protagonist, Jessica Day, had just entered the secret hour where everything had froze into place, including the raindrops whereas the author described them as “millions of diamonds [filling] the air” (Westerfeld 24). The plot was interesting as strange beings would appear during this secret hour and it was the job of the Midnighters, which were particular people who managed to go into the secret hour, to fight them off. Though, overall, it was too cliched.
Once the sun was covered, “it was dark night.” The only light showing in the sky was the thin ring of light from the corona peering from behind the black circle that was the moon. Everything was dark and black and in what was supposed to be broad daylight, Dillard could see cars below her turning on their headlights. She later described the shadow that overcame them during the eclipse. She said that screams were heard from the hilltop, because of the unsettling speed and abruptness at which the shadow came over them.

The book that I chose to read was all about the hidden secrets that the southern people keep. These secrets helped their southern town stay alive while also preserving the history. This book made me think of the south in a different way and it also made me realize that there is more than what meets the eye, especially in a small town. The book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt, sparked my interest because of my deep love for the south, the mystery of the murder, and the description of the unique people found in Savannah Georgia.
In “Midnight Rising,” Tony Horwitz grips works of history that prod essential and enduring American themes of race, faith, individualism, violence, and social justice. Horwitz’s book breaks down the life of John Brown, an antislavery warrior. John Brown was raised in a very strong in his Calvinism faith that was instilled in him by his father, Owen Brown. Owen Brown made sure that John was raised properly with a strong heart of faith in Calvinism. Calvinism is “a faith ever vigilant against sin and undue attachment to the things of this world (9).”
The book, Midnight Rising by Tony Horwitz, was about John Brown and the upcoming events that led him to the raid of Harpers Ferry. John Brown was an American who strongly believed in the abolishment of slavery in the United States. The author’s purpose of this book was to go into depth about John Brown and what he did that contributed to spark the Civil War. When Tony Horwitz wrote about the loss of Brown’s children and it made him depressed, I liked that Horwitz mentions earlier losses and his emotions that later contributed to the loss of his children that resulted him to a highly commitment of slavery abolishment.
The book night is about the author Elie Wiesel’s experiences in concentration camps all around Europe. The camps were Auschwitz, where he was first deported on May of 1944 with his father, mother, and his sister. He stayed there for 8 months before being liberated on January 27, 1945. He also stayed at Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald throughout the year. The book consists of memories of Wiesel’s time in the camps, and how it’s affected him in his life today.
“Everyone is handed adversity in life. No one’s journey is easy. It’s how they handle it that makes people unique.” This is a quote by Kevin Conroy. When applied to the novels Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and Night by Elie Wiesel, it is easy to see the truth in Conroy’s words.
Loaded into cattle trains on their way to an uncertain destination it's so crammed that it's impossible to sit down so they must take turns. Two days pass and they have crossed the hungarian border and are now in Germany. A German officer has informed them that their were 80 people in the car and if anybody goes missing they will all be shot like dogs. In the dead of night a woman named Mrs.Schächter begins to scream and throw a fit because she was separated from her husband and all of a sudden begins to scream that she sees fire an awful fire. The Jews in the car try to help Mrs.Schächter by explaining that the visions are not real and then they are fed up and begins to beat her with hits strong enough to kill her.

These feuds being in Perry, Breathitt, Clay, Harlan, Rowan, and Pike county Kentucky. The image that arises is one of family loyalties, exploitation and uselessness of the law, and a sense of vulnerability for those caught in the crossfire. John Ed Pearce probes into the difficulties and incentives for many of the well-known feuds in Kentucky 's history.
Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo aka My favorite book. This book is about Charlie Bone who has the ability to talk with paintings/portraits, with this unique ability he goes to Bloor Academy. Bloor Academy an elite school for the wealthy and the gifted. The book follows Charlie as he progresses Bloor’s Academy. I read this during the 3rd grade and, I found it really exciting because of his unique power which allowed him to speak to paintings.
