Jazz music is one of America’s oldest genres. Jazz can be traced back to the twentieth century. Jazz began with techniques such as call and response, later musicians formed styles such as ragtime, blues, big band, cool jazz, hard bop, jazz fusion, modal jazz, bebop, and many more. Jazz used to be very popular but overtime the popularity of jazz music decreased significantly but the genre and famous jazz musicians will always be remembered. Miles Davis was a musician, trumpeter, bandleader, as well as a composer. Jazz music was his specialty and he was a huge success for jazz music. A year later he made his first recording as a bandleader. In 1949 him and Parker split after making a few songs such as “Now’s the Time” and Billie’s Bounce that did not become as popular as expected. He took off to Paris to play the first Festival International de Jazz which consisted of old and young musicians. This convention gave Miles a whole different perspective of jazz music he respected it so much more. He was noticed for his solos which showed emotions and unique rhythm restraint. Miles noticed how much he was accepted in Europe. People didn’t discriminate him because of the color of his skin. Race didn’t seem to be an issue as it was in America, this brought his spirits down a lot ("Miles Davis Biography"). Like many jazz musicians he became hooked on heroin. It was very common for musicians to be hooked to narcotics. As if being famous wasn’t hard enough he struggled with discrimination just like every other back person in America which made him have to work twice as hard to become a musician, I believe that is why so many musicians struggled with drugs during that time (“"Jazz and Drugs."). During the time he struggled with addiction, he finished the Birth of Cool.
He eventually suffered from withdrawal and got through his addiction. He made his recovery and returned new and improved. The only problem was that he had a hard time finding a contract because producers were worried that he wouldn’t
