How did issues related to race affect the functioning of the U.S. Military during World War Two? Race in World War Two was a big problem. It has been a problem for years, and is still going on, to this day. The people in action during World War two, and the Military itself, had a huge impact on the people. Segregation being a huge impact on everyone. It caused uninvolvement from within the war. As we were fighting against one large enemy, we had a small battles within our Military. From it being the segregation of blacks, to women getting treated lower than the rest of the military. As soon as they had some people that could talk in Navajo, they recruited people to code talk, and put them in a Navajo code talker boarding school. The code talkers were never really praised for their high, efficient work. As time passed the declassification of the operation in 1968 happened. This caused uproar in the highest regard, as they were praised for their intelligent studies, and immense work and help to the U.S military. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan gave the code talkers a ‘Certificate of Recognition’ and established that on August 14, there would be a “Navajos Code Talkers Day.”
