Athena is a major character throughout the book of The Odyssey and is known as the goddess of wisdom and battle. Throughout the course of the book, it is evident that Athena has a weak spot for the main character, Odysseus. Odysseus is trying to return home after the Trojan War, as the other Greek hero’s have already done, however he faces multiple challenges a long the way. Fortunately, for Odysseus, Athena was there to guide him through a few of these troubling situations.

In every lesson about these gods, it constantly proves that the gods are childish, jealous of any worship that is not specific to them, and overall not very god like. In his first story Ovid gives tells us that Cupid was able to shoot Apollo with an arrow that made him fall in love with a nymph, it shows us that these gods do not have a chain of command all the gods run around trying to help certain nations while other gods try and foil their plans. He and his older brother attended an academy in Rome to study law. His father had high hopes for him to become involved in politics. Ovid later abandoned the academy and followed his desires to become a writer, disappointing his father.

The war involved The Allies that include Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. These five countries fought against the Central Powers whom included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. The leaders of Germany and Austria-Hungary started the war. This war consisted of a long 4 years.
Ovid’s Metamorphoses contains many Roman Myths, including the story of Semele in Book III. Semele’s story includes the characters Juno, Jupiter, and Semele, the main character. Semele is a human princess who was recently impregnated by Jupiter, a god. Juno is a goddess who is married to Jupiter and she was in a debate with Tiresias, a prophet who had been both man and woman, on wether sex was better as a male or female.
In a family there are many different roles; there's the role of the mother, the father, the child, the grandparents, then there’s the brothers and sisters. Every single one of those roles has different responsibilities. The father, according to most of society, is supposed to be the breadwinner for the family. However, nowadays the mother is actually quite capable of being the breadwinner just as much of as the father. As they work to show their children what it is to be an adult they are teaching them as well on how to be an active member of society.
Ovid published a book titled “The Art of Love” to help men win over women they desired. This book gives inside on what must be done to win women, as well as the Ovid’s opinion of women. It also showcases the immoral he brings to the Roman Empire. Ovid believes that a man should focus on his appearance and his behavior to make women fall in love with him.
What are monsters? I think monsters are creatures that take on abnormal form or structure. Everyone has a monster they love or hate. In this essay the monster I’ll be talking about is werewolves. Even though werewolves aren’t real, I love the stories and criminal cases about werewolves during medieval time.
When Athena, a goddess, realizes that her weaving competition with Arachne, a mortal, would end in a draw, the text states, “...she tore Arachne’s tapestry from top to bottom and began to beat the girl,” (85). Because Athena has supernatural powers, she should be viewed as a superior being. However, in this story, although Arachne is a mortal, she is able to weave at a comparable level of skill to Athena, a goddess. This causes Athena to feel envious of Arachne’s abilities, and in an effort to weaken Arachne, Athena destroys Arachne’s work and beats her. Athena’s behavior is similar to humans’ behavior when attempting to invalidate and undermine that people they are jealous and envious of.
Amongst the many women portrayed in the book, the two most important women are Athena and Penelope. Athena is the Goddess of wisdom, courage, law & justice, strength and skills. She plays the role of a mentor in disguise for Odysseus but doesn’t show him the full path to his destination as Athena wants Odysseus to fight and prevail on his own. Penelope is the wife of Odysseus and the mortal queen of Ithaca.
