The Miracle of Dunkirk was a short rush to evacuate soldiers from France, making it intense and quick. It is believed that Hitler had ordered his soldiers to halt, in a hope to still gain peace and treaty, while the British were confused, hoping for survival, so that they could recover and fight. Hitler gave orders for his army to, for a short amount of time, to halt before attacking Dunkirk. It was a huge mistake to let the Allies leave due to the fact that over ten times the amount of people expected to be evacuated, were evacuated. It was expected that only 30,000 soldiers would be able to evacuate, but estimated around 340,000 soldiers were evacuated being that “Between May 26 and June 4, 1940, some 340,000 Allied troops were evacuated from the French seaport of Dunkirk to England”(Britannica).
