This website was the Texas State Cemetery which is the burial place for honorable Texans such as governors, judges, congress members, and other Texans with a honorable reputation. One of the honorable persons included on this site was a governor, the first woman governor of Texas. This remarkable and historical woman was Miriam Amanda Wallace Ferguson. Her cemetry page was similar to an obituary. It is more thorough and well into to her history than a traditional obituary and is more of a mini biography. On Miriam’s site is several pictures one of her tombstone and one of her self. She was laid to rest next to her husband James Edward Ferguson, who also served as governor. Another more major disapproval was the irregularities both in granting of pardons and paroles and in the letting of road contracts by the state highway department. These pardons which she was known for she averaged letting convicts 100 a month pardon. Ma and Pa Ferguson had similar campaign being they worked together, the highway was a big issue that disapproved people. Ma and Pa were also accused of appointed state highway commission granted road contracts to ferguson friends and political supporters in return for lucrative kickbacks. During the next term In 1926 Ma did not win office again instead Attorney General Daniel James Moody won. In the following term in 1928 Ma did not run again in the election. Following In 1930 Pa tried to run for office again but was denied by the Texas Supreme Court. After Pa Ferguson could not run for office again Ma ran again in the gubernatorial race. Miriam won the primary against Ross Sterling,who was blamed for the great depression. This source gave insight into her career as governor and her attitude of perseverance. In the beginning she may have been trying to clear her husband’s name but ended up really trying to make a change. Miriam would not only be remembered as a first lady but as a governor also which is so important to women of Texas. I wish I had known more about her but this source was a great introduction to Miriam Amanda Wallace Ferguson. I think she deserves more recognition as governor, especially her efforts against the Ku Klux Klan, and her great amount of pardons that she allowed. I also think it should be noted she ran for office and won more than once. She was well favored and did gain enough likes of the people of Texas to win office twice. She was a strong and smart woman that endured the threat of impeachment but came out winning and ran again for office. She continued to be involved in politics until she was sixty-five years old when she ran for the last time as governor. She may not have won that last election but it showed people cared and voted for
