Rebecca uncovers that when Henrietta received treatment for cancer, a sample tissue was cut from the tumor growing in her cervix without Henerietta’s knowledge. Dr. TeLinde, the leading doctor in the study of cervical cancer, took tissue samples from women in public wards without their consent. This was common practice back in that time, and TeLinde figured that it was a fair exchange since the people in the public ward of Hopkins Hospital were receiving treatment without payment. Skloot lets us know that TeLinde was in the middle of proving that invasive tumors developed from noninvasive tumors. His research would be further helped by Gey and Margaret, who worked for over 30 years in producing an immortal lineage of human cells outside of the body.
Introduction The article Cancer Alley: Big Industry, Big Problem written by Trymaine Lee discusses the connection between health risk and the environment in the south, particularly in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The article explains the connection between poverty, and the location of industrial plants that expose people to toxic pollutants. Studies conducted on the United States show that poor people, mostly poor African Americans, are more likely to live in neighborhood that is close to industrial plants, which causes them to be more at risk for health issues due to the environment. In general, the article explains that in the United States, particularly in the south, there is something called environmental racism. Environmental racism can be described as certain people in certain areas are exposed to contaminated air, soil and water.
Lastly, vitamin D deficiency has been linked to the recurrence of breast cancer in other parts of a woman 's body. Advancements in prostate cancer include new research in gene changes that will help understand how the cancer develops. Some hereditary genes that have specific components of the DNA have been found to actually increase the risk of cancer in men. Many scientists have discovered that substances in some foods aid in lowering the risk of contracting the cancer. Lastly, a new treatment made is high intensity focused ultrasound or HIFU, which is used to kill cancer cells in early stages by using high focus ultrasonic

The essay, Finding my Cancer Style, by Suleika Jaouad discusses the balance of battling with a disease, such as leukemia. The balance as in preparing for the devastations and treatments, as well as the tragic experiences that are to take place with this huge style. I personally feel as if Jaouad’s message portrayed, in this essay, refers closely to the idea of coping with stress in the society we have today. She is saying that gaining inspiration for the dominant traits from one's tough explorations can give that person new strengths. So by reading this essay, someone can learn that through events that they may think are the toughest, there is always positive ways to cope with the problems; so never give up and find new positives.
A Greek physician named Galen came up with the Humoral Theory. The Humoral Theory is the theory that good health relies on a balance of your blood, bile, phlegm, and black bile. Humors are influenced by what they eat or drink. Drinks reflect a combination of moisture, cold, hot, and heat.

The myth that I am writing this post assignment on is if drinking water actually helps one lose weight. As far as I have learnt in this module, one of the ways to lose weight is to eat healthily; exercise and lead a balanced lifestyle such as getting adequate sleep etc. The weight loss industry is one that is always thriving and money making, because losing weight is tough, it takes time and patience and at the current age and time, people just want everything fast and instant, e.g. fast food, technology is always changing everything is getting faster. Another reason, according to marketwatch.com, one over three American adults over 20 is obese, making the weight loss industry a profitable business. Health and fitness companies come up with supplements, diet plans, books, exercise machines etc. and managed to rake in an estimated $14 billion in earnings.
Folkman’s research we have to not necessarily go to the beginning of his life’s research, but right when he leaves the Navy, and not even necessarily with Dr. Folkman himself, but with Dr. Algire. With these men we start learning seeing how blood vessels work, firstly; with rabbits that when rabbits have had cancer inserted into their thyroids that this would trigger the growth of blood vessels, that cancer itself would be able to deceive the blood vessels to grow and feed the tumor making it about to expand and exploit the body’s natural ability to help heal itself. Later in an experiment, we can see this in a different way, with mice. With three different groups of mice, one group being the control just being injured through a surgical device and nothing assisting it, with inserting normal tissue into the second group, and inserting cancerous cells into the third group. Multiple days later the test results where in, and with the first two groups everyone was relatively fine.
