A disability can make someone look at a "disabled" person in a specific way, even though they are just as capable as others of doing things. Some people don't realize the impact someone with a disability can have on the world because they are limited and criticized for their issues. People without disabilities can show what they have, and those with disabilities will never even get past the starting line because of people's biased views on disabilities. After listening to the Ted Talk by Keith Nolan, a private cadet, he established ethos, logos, and pathos through his educational speech on the deaf in the military. In the Ted Talk, Keith Nolan backs up his story with emotion, statistics, credible information, and real-life experience.
The strength of deaf identity may be present in parents, but by deciding against cochlear implants for children, they may be jeopardizing life and/or career opportunities in the future. One can clearly survive and function in the hearing world as being deaf or hearing impaired, but to what degree can one do so in comparison to their non-deaf counterparts? The film "Through Deaf Eyes" follows the history of the deaf. It touches the everyday struggles they faced in their life. The misunderstanding of what it meant to be deaf years ago, and the amazing accomplishments they have made throughout the years. Scattered throughout the film are short documentaries by deaf artists and filmmakers, showing their experiences. Some show the struggles of learning to speak, living with cochlear implants, and the time in history when deaf people were not allowed to use sign language.

Lead-K Sets the Standard for Educational Goals Within Deaf Community As our country moves toward an all-inclusive society, where every gender, race, culture and social group is revered for its independency and uniqueness, one fraction of the nation seems to be left in the backdrop. The deaf community population makes up about 4 million of the total United States population,. The deaf community faces many challenges, but none may be greater than the access to early education and language acquisition. The Deaf community has been faced with discrimination all throughout history. This has made it difficult for Deaf to people to find jobs and has spawned many false misconceptions about the Deaf. One the most famous people to discriminate against the Deaf was Alexander Graham Bell. Bell wanted to eradicate sign language, stop Deaf intermarriage, and in effect squash Deaf culture (Signing the Body Poetic). Bell played a major role in discrimination against they Deaf but in the end the Deaf culture persevered threw it and became stronger.
Bonnie Tucker and Matt Hamill; How are They the Same and How are They Different In the book, The Feel of Silence by Bonnie Tucker, you see the story of a young woman growing up deaf. Although medically and physically she is profoundly deaf, in the mind and heart she desperately wants to be a part of the hearing world. While reading Deaf Again, I couldn’t help from thinking, how I would have treated Mark through elementary school and high school. I was amazed when he said that he was so used to reading people’s lips and didn’t even notice he was deaf. I know that when I try to read people’s lips without hearing their voice it is very hard. It’s crazy how we take advantage of sound in our everyday lives as human beings. I know that I could not imagine not having the ability to hear sounds of the world.
Deaf children with Deaf parents usually develop a strong sense of self and know who they are. While many Deaf children with hearing parents grow up and have resentment for their parents and professionals. They usually they feel as if they weren’t exposed into the deaf world enough. Both parents face considerable challenges in raising their children. They face their children being “educated below their capacity, employed below their capability and viewed negatively in the hearing world because they are deaf” (28).
The categories range from mild, having the least case of severity of deafness, through moderate then to severe, and ends at the worst-case severity, being profound deafness. A normal human being can hear sounds between 0 and 140 decibels. When the decibel is at zero, it means that there is no sound occurring. When the decibel is at 140, the noise is closely related to a person being nearby a siren on a Monday morning (“Harmful noise”, 2015). When a person is suffering from mild deafness, they are only able to detect sound between 25-29 decibels.

[2] During pregnancy nongenetic factors that cause this type of deafness range from low birth weight, lack of oxygen, prematurity, and many more.
