White privilege is the societal privilege that benefits individuals whom society recognizes as white in some countries, beyond what is generally experienced by non-white individuals under a similar social, political, or financial conditions. Peggy Mcintosh explains white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets. White privilege denotes the subtle or sometimes obvious passive advantages that white people may not notice that they receive, which originates from overt bias and prejudice. These incorporates cultural affirmations of one’s own worth; presumed greater social status; and freedom to move, buy, work, play, and speak freely. A lot of the time people feel guilty about being the beneficiaries of some form of privilege, but a lot of the time they do not understand that having privileges is not the result of what we have done as an individual but should be seen more like a membership given upon birth. …show more content…

I can honestly say that nothing on the checklist applied to me. This really got me thinking about white privilege and how that affects black people in America, but also the misconception of white privilege that a lot of people have. Let’s talk about the misconceptions of white privilege first. Many people believe that white privilege means that white people don’t have to struggle, but that isn’t the case. It just means that white people go through different struggles than other racial groups, and the quality of that struggle sets them apart. In my belief, white privilege doesn’t guarantee success in life, but because they are the default they have roots that prevail over other racial groups. White privilege does not mean that white people don’t face any kind of hardships, or don’t have to work to succeed, however, it does give them advantages over people of
