My character Lady Seymour changes throughout the novel, Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. She took Isable in after stocks and giving her milk and cookies(152). Lady Seymour tried to buy Isabel from cruel nephew’s wife,but Madam would not let her take Isabel from her. Lady Seymour felt indebted to Isabel after she saver her from the fire (194). Lady Seymour covered for Isabel when Madam found out she was taking food to prison.
Old, lonely ladies like Adela Strangeworth could suffer from boredom. One would also think that she would probably like to work in her yard. And one could even think of her living in a small town, where she would probably also know all of the people. If one visualizes all these clichés when an old lady was mentioned, one now has a pretty good picture of Miss Adela Strangeworth, the protagonist of the short story, “The Possibility of Evil’’ by Shirley Jackson. Miss Strangeworth is 71 years old and lives in a small town.

The short story "The Terrible Things" connects to the quote by Elie Wiesel in today's agenda because the quote says, " Those who kept silent yesterday will remain silent tomorrow." which can connect to the animals in the short story when they chose to stay silent as "The Terrible Things" took away all of the animals. This short story is allegory about the Holocaust, and Eve Bunting uses the forest and animals to make it accessible to children of any age. The story "The Terrible Things" is used to inform people about how much of an impact that the Holocaust and persecutions had on people of different races. Eve Bunting is able to make it accessible to everyone because he uses the words "The Terrible Things" to describe the horrible and traumatizing
In the book Night by Ellie Wiesel there are many words that can describe the horrible events that went on during the Holocaust. There was a tremendous amount of evil that the Germans displayed during this time period. One of the most soul opening quotes from Ellie was, “Yes, I did see this, with my own eyes … children thrown into the flames" (Wiesel 51). The people in this book that committed these crimes were always so corrupt. It is extremely wrong to kill any person, but it is especially wrong to kill babies that still have so much more of their life to live.
She acts in a caring manner to everyone’s face, but when she is alone, she becomes a heartless woman, determined to reveal what she knows. Miss Strangeworth is the one causing the distress in her community, yet she acts oblivious as to what is bothering everyone. She shows her extreme deceitfulness by attempting to ease Helen Crane’s concern about her child by saying “Nonsense… some of them develop… more quickly than others” (Jackson, 1941, p. 167). This is deceitful because she is aware that there is something different about the child and instead of voicing that, she consoles the mother, only to subsequently shatter her in an anonymous letter. Additionally, Miss Strangeworth cleverly utilizes the most common paper and envelops all townspeople use for her letters.
Mrs. Strangeworth wrote notes about everyone but she would never sign the notes. She would write letters which contained hurtful observations, which she called “truths”, about the recipients. The letters were always targeted at one single person. Such as Don Crane, or the teenage boy whom she suspected of having sexual relations with his girlfriend. Mrs. Strangeworth's intentions are to protect the townspeople from evil.

It explores and addresses the ideas of ‘female bad behavior’ and challenges the idea that there are good and bad women, not both in this world as well as how society has created standards and a status quo around what a good or bad woman looks like. Margaret Atwood uses many techniques throughout her speech, including narrative voice, metaphors, tone, rhetorical questions and more. Is Ms. Strangeworth a victim OR villain In the short story “The Possibility of Evil” written by Shirley Jackson, the protagonist Ms. Strangeworth is a villain because she isn’t what everyone’s aspect of her is, she is very deceptive, and the letters she sends are the very cause of the evil she’s trying to stop. Ms. Strangeworth is a seventy-one-year-old lady who lives in a little town, which she thinks is her own. She always feels the need to know everything, about everyone. Even though, no one knows who she really is.
This quote also gives you an idea of how Miss Strangeworth enjoyed gossip or talking about someone behind their back. Little Entitlement, Big Blindness In the short story “The Possibility of Evil”, Shirley Jackson enunciates the point that a sense of entitlement ,no matter where it comes from, it gives a false perspective about the world and ourselves and horrible events may come of it. Initially, the audience can be aware of Miss Strangeworth’s sense of entitlement can be generated from even the littlest of things. The point can be proven this by using this quote in the story “ My grandfather built the first house on Pleasant Street,” she would say [...] "This house, right here. "My family has lived here for better than a hundred years.
By all appearances, Miss Strangeworth is a sweet, old lady, living in a perfect, shiny, happy town. But appearances are not everything, especially in the case of Miss Adela Strangeworth of Pleasant Street. Miss Adela Strangeworth, a character in the short story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, is a 71-year-old spinster living in a small town in the 1940’s. At the beginning, she seems like any normal old lady, but it is quickly realized that this is not the case and that she has a dark side. Of the many traits that Miss Strangeworth possesses, the most prominent are her deceptiveness, perfectionism, and the god complex that has developed.
In Speak, Melinda was raped by Andy at a party. Melinda called the police and the party ended. She refused to say what happened until after Andy start dating her best friend Rachel. Andy try to rape her for the second time after he found out what she did. Luckily, Melinda was saved when people outside heard the movement.

A secret life can be evil or good, in Miss Strangeworth’s case it is suitable, but do others appreciate this secret life. In The Possibility of Evil Shirley Jackson illustrates inner thinking, revealing action, and symbolism to show how Miss Strangeworth tends the people like her roses, but truly state's them evil.
Nelson Mandela Nelson Mandela was born 18 July 1918 in the village of Mvezo, in South Africa. From a young age, Mandela witnessed the injustice committed by the government first hand. In 1943, when he was older he co-founded ANCYL (African National Congress Youth League), an anti-apartheid youth organization. The group used tactics such as peaceful protests, strikes and boycotts. The police responded to these peaceful actions with killing and beating the protesters.
