2. Define the terms on slide 6 (save the anti-biotic question for later on in this list of questions).
What is a species?
• Species is a group of members that breed together and have similar appearances.

Explain the contributions of each of the following: Charles Darwin, Gregor Mendel (spelled wrong on the slide), and Carl Linneaus.
• Charles Darwin developed the theory of evolution that stated that all living things share a common ancestor.
• Gregor Mendel conducted experiments to obtain information about the mating practices between plants with different traits. While working pea plants he found the pattern of inheritance and also the dominant and recessive traits which were his contributions.
• Carl Linneaus grouped organisms into a hierarchy and also gave organisms and plants names in Latin.
7. List the three principles of natural selection. How is this exemplified with the rattlesnake and snowshoe hair scenarios from NPR?
• The three principles of natural selection are individuals within a population can vary, a population may produce more offspring but not all will survive, the offspring that does survive will reproduce.
• In the rattlesnake story the offspring survives and reproduces but when it does the offspring doesn’t have a rattle either.
• In the snowshoe hair story the hares aren’t able to adapt to their environment which makes them less likely to survive and produce offspring.
8. What does adaptation result
