He tells us about his love for life, family, and food. Hiram finds out that his grandfather is racist and was a part of the murder of Emmett. Hiram confronts his grandfather about his racist mind and eagerness to commit murder on a child. What did the author do to enhance the feeling (use specific examples from the book)? The book made me feel excited about what was going to happen next. I wanted to know who killed Emmitt and how. I wanted to know what the reason was and if they were going to go for Hiram next. I got far into the book, but stopped because I lost interest. Once I got toward the end I could not stop reading because this was when he started putting pieces together and confronting his grandfather, but no one else in fear of being killed
