McDougal’s cave is an important setting in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer because it is where Injun Joe gets lost and dies. This ends the story. The group of schoolmates started by going to the cave for a picnic. It started out fun, but then they went into the cave. Eventually Tom and Becky had escaped the group and got lost in the cave. They were able to get out, but not before seeing Injun Joe. By seeing Injun Joe in the cave they had the idea that they could find the treasure there. McDougal’s cave was the scene that the gold was found, so it’s an extremely important place.
If The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was in Lebanon instead of St. Petersburg, Missouri McDougal’s cave would be the Prairie Industries company. This old building is closed,
