Jordan Baker is a perfect example of a character careless of the consequences of their actions. This can be seen through her actions throughout the novel. Her careless actions are first revealed in chapter 3, when Nick discovers Jordan’s previous incidents of lying. He also found out during a golf competition, “she had moved her ball from a bad lie” (page).

Adolf Hitler then went on to plan and lead one of the biggest and most widespread human massacres of all time, The Holocaust. Adolf Hitler believed that no one would notice the Holocaust because no one had taken much interest in the Armenian Genocide. The historical fiction book Forgotten Fire, by Adam Bagdasarian, tells the story of a boy named Vahan Kenderian who lived through the Armenian Genocide.

Another line that is less murky but still not quite obvious is “I began to fear that piloting was not quite so romantic as I had imagined it was; there was something very real and work-like about this new phase of it.” The narrator reveals that he doubts himself in his ability to pilot and realizes he may not be fit for the job and finds out
Most of the time sacrifices are driven by some type of love, strength or necessity. It is done by giving up something good for the better, whether for yourself or, another person. In the real world, the idea of selfless sacrifice is shown through the soldiers that fight for their country. Not only does this idea appear in the real world, but also the literary world where one character’s act of courage to make a sacrifice becomes an important variable in the novel. One such novel is Veronica Roth’s Allegiant.

Why did they rejoice when an ‘enemy’ was met with it? Why were they wanting it for themselves? Even my own mother would rather him die than have her son save a life; I simply couldn’t comprehend it. As soon I managed to wriggle my arm free from her grasp I was off again bolting towards the site of the crash. I wasn’t thinking of how I was to save him, I just knew I had to try my absolute best.
The period from 1865 to 1900 was characterized by an astronomical boom in industry and manufacturing, economic growth for the rich, financial turmoil for the poor, and political corruption. As a result, the era has been named “The Gilded Age.” Just as something gilded is gold on the outside but worthless metal on the inside, these years seemed prosperous from an outside perspective, when in reality, the wealth gap was increasing at an alarming rate and big business had power over government officials. As a result of this, a lot of federal legislation was influenced by monopolies and often catered to the desires of businessmen. Since regulation of certain business practices would cause these trusts to lose money, Congress shied away from regulating

Despite having the trappings of a hard sci-fi adventure story, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is a deeply humanist and spiritual film exploring philosophical and emotional issues in a complex way (Dean, 2015). Central to this are the concepts of bravery and sacrifice: as Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and the rest of his crew take great risks and travel vast distances to save humanity from a dying Earth, the characters all display varying aspects of the human condition, especially related to these very big, complex ideas. As the characters of Interstellar go about their mission and weigh the risks and rewards of each and every decision, they each find their own definitions of bravery and sacrifice, weighing their own personal decisions against
