Dead wake by Eric Larson was a fantastic book. In Larson’s past he has written many books based on historical events. Devil in the white city was great book. H.H Holmes was a very interesting character. This book is based on the Lusitania ship that sailed on May 1, 1915 from the port of New York. The Lusitania was a new age ship. It was supposed to have top of the line technology and was pure luxury. The boat was said to be the biggest and fastest ship of its time, and still managed to carry a massive load of passengers. What was very unusual was that the passengers were so calm and unafraid of German submarines. During the time of departure there was a German notice telling British ships to sail with cation due to German appearance in the area. The ship carried all sorts of passengers from British, and many American passengers with their families, that contained infants as well. He creates a sense of cat and mouse between the German U boat captain Walther Schwieger, and the passengers aboard the Lusitania. He gives the reader an understanding on what kind of a person the captain is and lets the reader decide what is fate is. We don’t know if the captain knew that boat was full of innocent civilians, or that he did know but he just didn’t care. Larson provides glimpses of the outside world. Woodrow Wilson’s character is given to the reader and allows the reader to have and understanding of what kind of a person President Woodrow Wilson was. It talks about his effects he had on the progressive era. Larson informs the reader about Churchill’s role as well. Larson’s provides Point of view for all of these character. It puts the reader in the shoes of the character. The reader is able to feel empathy for the passengers, and the German U boat Captain. It is really a great experience for the
