Have you ever notice the funny character, ©, on the 2nd to 3rd page in your book? I am pretty sure one of your teachers identify this character to your knowledge in grade school when you were taught how to cite a resource for research papers. We understand this symbol represents the word "Copyright" or is an abbreviation for "Copr.". Copyright means the first year(s) of a copyrighted publication or an identification of an owner by name, abbreviation, or other designation by which they are generally known.
A good example would be from our textbook, Communication in History. The second page in the book views; “Copyright © 2011, 2007, 2003 Taylor & Francis. All rights reserved” (Crowley, pg. 2). This means the book was published first in 2003,

Modern hieroglyphs can be seen on a daily. They are in your cellphone, computer, billboards, menus, buildings, etc. For every icon, character, or symbol used there is a meaning or purpose behind it. What exactly could these stand for? Well it depends, a great example would be the emojis on your cellphone. Emojis have rapidly become popular in the digital world. They have allowed people to improve their conversations through text messages, or social media applications, to add fun and feelings to communication.
Have you noticed that it be easier to click on the happy face rather than texting the word “happy”? These emojis have a function, to signal to the world that somebody is feeling or thinking or acting out what the emoji is representing. Emoji’s not only make it convenient but is creative as well. Emojis do not magically appear out of thin air. Just like in the past, there were certain people who took the time to create Egyptian hieroglyphs that are present in history books today, such as our own. Well there are people who take the time to create the emoticons we use daily as well.
