In Source 1 the writer is demonstrating values in equity in the income platform of society with a strong belief that income should be relatively similar while varying slightly based on the needs of individuals. The goal of this system is to provide every citizen with a strong quality of life based on a criteria that determines their needs to maintain such quality. By spreading the wealth evenly and fairly people will have enough to provide their families with education, healthcare, food, housing and even some luxuries. The writer believes changing to a criteria based system would not pose any negative effects on the economy since all citizens would be in a better position to contribute. Modern liberalism provides a good balance between collectivism and individualism which provides freedom while having some restrictions that allow prosperity for all. A supporter of modern liberalism believes this is superior to a capitalist mindset because it allows everyone to participate in the economy with the reward being spread as opposed to only a few benefiting while others struggle. The idea that that incentive will be lost without social darwinism is questionable because there is no solid proof that society will be less productive while earning similarly. With everyone's needs being met society would likely prove to be much happier and productive. The ideological perspective presented in source one is linked to modern liberalism through values of equity and socialism. This is also represented by the criticism of a capitalist mindset and its validity in society. It shows a sharp and drastic change for the top one percent of income earners while a smaller steady change for the other ninety-nine percent. Productivity is also shown to increase at a steady and stable rate likely due to people's incentive to become a part of the one percent. It is also noted that this country has a free market economy which can be directly linked to the different change in incomes. The free market economy depicted in the visual is most closely linked to ideas of classical liberalism that promote freedom and minimal government involvement, yet it may be used by modern liberalists to show the unfair wage gap that is a result of a free market economy. Even with such an argument being made classic liberals can clearly use the graph to demonstrate the connection between free markets and productivity rise even if small rise in average income. Another argument is that even if it's small there is a noticeable increase in average income which along with productivity are signs of a growing economy. Classic liberalism is characterized by economic freedoms with the government playing only a small role in regulations. It is much more individualistic than the ideas of modern liberalism and the term social darwinism is often used to describe it. The survival of the fittest mentality allows for individuals to take their products and
