Moishe the Beadle In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, there is a man named Moishe the Beadle who is a 40 years old Jewish man. He is poor and teaches Kabbalah. He gets sent to a concentration camp and sees people digging trenches and getting killed. However, he died and survived and went back to Sighet to warn everyone. When Moishe first warned the people of Sighet about what he saw, they refused to believe and listen to him. Moishe feels ignored when he goes from one Jewish house to the next, telling people what he saw and they don't listen and call him mad. He told people he saw babies getting tossed in the air and being used as a gun target, which was horrifying to even think about. While he is at the camp, he sees horror. There were Jews digging trenches and stepping forward, as the Nazis shot them they fell into the trenches creating massive graves. Infants were getting tossed in the air and being used as gun targets. He gets injured and plays dead to survive; as he gets out alive, he returns back to Sighet and tries to warn everyone. When Moishe tells everyone about what he saw “people not only refused to believe his tales, they refused to listen”(7). They call him crazy and don’t believe what he is saying. Everyone thought he wanted attention and ignored him.People want proof nowadays and back then because it’s hard to believe someone you don’t know. Also, people back then didn’t favor the poor and their opinion. However, now some people are willing to listen to people, no matter their status. Believe it or not, horrifying things like innocent lives getting taken still happen. For example, wars, murders, and terrorist attacks. In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, Moishe gets sent to the concentration camp and barely survives the camp. Afterwards, he returns to Sighet and tries to warn people about what he saw.
