In chapter seven of Night, by Elie Wiesel, one of the most emotional scenes is shared. The Jews are being transported to a different location and the officers begin to throw bread crumbs as a sort of sick, twisted game. They enjoy watching the Jews turn on each other and maim one another just for the smallest crumb of bread. In my cartoon, the first quadrant is the scene where young Eliezer talks about the train ride and how claustrophobic everyone became due to the space provided and the amount of Jews crammed in. The next frame is of the father crawling out of the mob while our main character sat watching.
In this passage, my mother and I listened to a discussion Eliezer and Moishe the Beadle had together. Moishe the Beadle asks Eliezer why does he pray. Eliezer is dumbfounded by the question as he his used to praying regularly. He replies to Moishe he does not know why prays. Moishe later tells him that people should ask God questions even though people won’t understand His reply.
Elie Wiesel’s “Night” depicts death, obliteration, and anguish while directly depicting the suffering he witnessed during his time at Auschwitz, a concentration camp for Jews during World War II. Within the story, there is an overwhelming amount of times the Jews had been in distress. Many children had been separated from their parents and all of the Jews were taken from their homes. Their suffering seemed endless. They were no longer teachers, homeowners, or priests.
Howard Schultz once said, “In times of adversity and change, we discover who we are and what we are made of.” In life, one starts to realize everything is not always peachy. Sometimes one has to go through patches of thorns before things start to look up, but in the long run difficulties in life turn out to make one stronger person. In the books Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom, and Night by Elie Wiesel, two of the main characters are pushed to their limits and beyond. How these men react to their situation is both mesmerizing, and courageous.
In the book Night, we the readers witness the hardships and struggles in Elie’s life during the traumatic holocaust. The events that take place in this story are unbearable and are thought to be demented in modern times. In the beginning Elie is shown as a normal teenage Jewish boy, but the events are so drastic that we the readers forget how he was like in the beginning. Changes were made to Elie during the book, whether they were minor or major. The changes generated from himself, the journey, and other people.
At what point does respect no longer matter? When does the need for survival take over grief? When do the tears dry up in order to stay alive?
In his award winning book “Night” Elie Wiesel gives his first hand account of the terrors of the holocaust and Nazi Germany. He goes through to explain the injustices that happened to him and the rest of the jewish people living in europe at this time, telling of the horrid dehumanization of a whole race and others targeted by the Nazi regime. Many of the horrors perpetuated by this group are in direct violation of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. One instance of violation shows up when the prisoners are explaining how buna used to be to Elie.
Elie Wiesel lived through a rough concentration camp that involved different parts where innocent human beings died. His reference to “...they listen, they cry, they warn” explains how those who died are still around with them through the Holocaust and help them be warned about the events that happened. Elie shares that the Jews suffered in inexplicable ways by how they were told that they were taking a shower but instead were taken into a chamber where Zyklon B was exposed, disease exposure in locks, and they even had to create certain things for the Nazis’. Jewish families were separated into different camps but few had survived in the Auschwitz camp, where Elie went to. Although these horrors were hard, Wiesel learned to stay calm and heard
An important quote I found from chapters seven through nine was, “Suddenly, the evidence overwhelmed me: there was no longer any reason to live, any reason to fight” (99). This quote is saying that Elie had given up all the hope he had left to live. He was ready and prepared to die because he felt as though there was no reason left for him to live. This quote is important to Elie’s experiences because he saw so much sickness, weakness, and death that made him lose hope in his survival. He saw people dying right in front of his eyes and knew there was nothing he could do to help them.
The holocaust was not just about the slaughtering of jews is about riding the world of its imperfections. According to Hitler these “imperfections” included being jewish, having anything but blonde hair and blue eyes, being handicapped mentally or physically, or being homosexual. During the holocaust jews human natural rights were violated in several different ways. There is a document that states all of the human rights. Night Essay Elie Wiesel’s sorrowful autobiography, Night, follows the life of an early teenage Elie, and his firsthand experience as a Jew during the Holocaust. His account provides a chilling look into the horrors of the concentration camps and displays a different perspective of the Holocaust never seen before. Most people know about the Holocaust in history class, or an article or video, but specific details about the suffering and agony the Jews went through may not have been mentioned. Contemporary audiences should read this autobiography to teach us gratitude and to appreciate what he has, as well as learn and understand humanity’s past mistakes to prevent them from happening again.
During the time of the Holocaust, many human rights were violated. Elie Wiesel was a survivor of the holocaust, and has written the book titled Night describing what life was like for him and others during the harsh time. His book has become very popular because is shows awareness of how bad the times were. Wiesel says, “The SS officers were doing the selection: the weak to the left; those who walked well, to the right.” (Page 96)
The characterization of Moshie and Mrs. Shachter shows the indifference and denial of the Jews of Sighet. The chilling juxtaposition of a beautiful landscape containing a camp of death illustrates how the world not only was indifferent to the inhumane suffering, but also continued to shine brightly as if nothing really mattered. This timeless theme of denial and its consequences during the Holocaust echoes the struggles of those in our time who are persecuted solely due to their beliefs. The reader takes away the important lesson of never turning away from those who need it greatest, each time one reads Elie Wiesel’s memoir,
Chapter One Summary: In chapter one of Night by Elie Wiesel, the some of the characters of the story are introduced and the conflict begins. The main character is the author because this is an autobiographical novel. Eliezer was a Jew during Hitler’s reign in which Jews were persecuted. The book starts out with the author describing his faith.
GENRE/ STYLE ASSIGNMENT Action movies are more appealing to certain demographic distributions. Bourne Ultimatum is ideally based on fantasy, and the audiences are tipped to identify with the unbelievably capable and original actor, and it seems so realistic that it only enhances the same fantasy. Even though Pamela Landy and Nicky Parsons are represented as the guardian of morals in the movie, this genre almost invariably represents females as not powerful.
