“I know by now that it’s not my fault but I still feel guilty sometimes, simply for the fact that I am alive and she is not. ” (Lines 70-72). This quote illustrates the main character’s ambiguous feelings towards the death of her twin sister, Molly. Her whole life she has both hated and loved Molly but the sister’s life is cut short, when a taxi hits her on the way home from a night out. Now the she is left behind with feelings of guilt, regret and the terrible task to move on from the death of her sister.

The entire story is told from Molly’s sister’s point of view; however, we are never being told her name. When the main character thinks back on her childhood, it is obvious that Molly is the more prominent of the two. We are told that Molly is the one with dreams of a life filled with fame and fortune, whereas the main character is more cautious. As it is shown in the quote “But …show more content…

She is letting her sister getting front and not fighting for what she wants because she has a feeling that no matter what Molly will do it better than her. This could be linked back to their early childhood where the main character had a stammer and Molly became used to speaking for her (lines 27-28). Her identity seems to disappear into her twin sister in an almost dystopian way. Subsequently, this way of acting starts annoying the main character as they age and she feels a need to break out of it. “We fought a lot that summer, I was tired of her finishing my sentences and speaking for both of us, a throwback to when I had a stammer as a child.
