California’s OSHA investigated and fined the park $375. SeaWorld responded by changing the procedures for such exercises”. In 2006 two patrons were bit by dolphins at the Dolphin Cove exhibit. A dolphin bit a boy at the petting attraction while under the supervision of a SeaWorld Employee.
Luke Moresea 10-17-14 Period 9 Documentary #2 Essay This documentary uses a lot of rhetoric devices throughout the entire movie. The purpose is to attract attention to the slaughtering of dolphins in Taiji, Japan. They want to attract attention to this matter because not only is this very cruel to these animals but it is also poisoning the civilians of Japan for eating dolphin meat because dolphin meat is very toxic with mercury.
“If all the beasts were gone, men would die from a great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to the man. All things are connected.” The Hawaiian monk seal is the nation’s most endangered seal, and one of the world’s most endangered marine mammal. With enough resources scientists can make progress toward achieving and to help maintain a healthy population of these endangered monk seals, but it will not be easy. Preventing interactions between people and seals is a responsibility is something these organizations are going to have to manage.

The documentary “Blackfish” focused on killer whales in captivity, specifically Tilikum; a wild orca who was caught and exposed to captivity and its environment which eventually lead him to violently turn on his trainers at SeaWorld and even took some of their lives. This documentary examines how the difference from living in sea life to captivity can cause these whales and orcas to live up to their names. Blackfish discusses and argues how life in captivity for these whales is cruel and dangerous, not only for the whales but for their trainers as well. The information throughout this documentary was all painful to watch in my view, but it also had a positive approach.
In conclusion Blackfish is gives audiences a shocking, aggressive and deeply compelling look into cruel practices of marine parks for decades that will change the way you look at captive/trained killer whales and other animals. In watching this documentary has significantly opened my eyes regarding the brutal treatment and methods of capturing wild animals giving me a greater sympathy for orcas in parks such as SeaWorld. This startling documentary will surprise audiences as Cowperthwaite is unrelenting in showing the fatal consequences of keeping killer whales in captivity while also critiquing of the cruel and immoral practises of
Andre Cole Ricardo Acosta G. English 101 September 22, 2015 Do Killer Whales Actually Belong in Captivity? Ever since wild animals such as Killer Whales have been captured and kept in theme parks and zoos as amusement, there have been issues on whether they should or shouldn’t be kept in captivity. Killer Whales, otherwise commonly referred to as Orcas, have regularly been taken away from the sea at a very young age so they can be trained, raised and kept in theme parks for exhibition. Although theme parks no longer capture whales from the wild, they are still bred in captivity for public display at marine parks such as Sea World (Gorman).
The target audience of this documentary is the general public that includes a big emphasis on the customers of SeaWorld. The filmmakers are trying to inform the public of the inhumane treatment and the conditions that the orcas face while at amusements parks such as SeaWorld. As described in the film, orcas are seen as intellectual animals that are aware of their surroundings. Because of their intellect, orcas don’t belong in a place SeaWorld and should be released.
Furthermore, this can be the cause of all the incidence including to what happened to Dawn Brancheau who was completely mutilated by a whale. Despite the interview with a former trainer, from a document which was published after the release of Blackfish by SeaWorld to object
“Blackfish” Animals and their trainers always became a major part of the performance, and marine creatures were not an exception. However, such “human-animal” collaboration often created both ethical and security issues. The documentary Blackfish demonstrates this combination and covers such topics as: is it dangerous to work with orca, and does these animals suffer because of their life in amusement parks? The answer is “yes” for both questions. The documentary also shows that administrations often covered up an information about the danger level of orcas (even from trainers) to continue to profit by them as actors or inseminators.
Without a doubt, killer whales (Orcinus orca) are by far among the most intelligent and socially complex creatures on the planet. They live in close-knit family units each with unique social structures, hunting techniques, and even vocalization. A wild orca is a sight to behold, gracefully gliding through the waves, enjoying being the powerful, elegant creature that it is. However, some orcas are not so lucky. The captive killer whale industry is mainly monopolized by the SeaWorld corporation, which has made billions off of the exploitation of orcas and their “Shamu” shows.

Being held captive leads animals to have abnormal behaviors that unfortunately can lead to the deaths of people. Although zoos and sea-parks claim they are all about educating the public and conservation we know its
While planning for the Swannanoa Gathering- Traditional Song Week at Warren Wilson College; I glossed over the course descriptions, quickly picked classes that I deemed most interesting, then, to my disappointment when I went to register, found each of these classes were completely full. Frustrated with my lack of choices, I ended up picking my courses on a whim, selecting three classes that simply fit my time preferences, assuring myself that they’d turn out fine, then forgot about them all together till months later when my classmates and I arrived on campus and received our schedules. Today, after completing the summer program, I reflect on how remarkably lucky I am to have randomly chosen the classes that I had, for they turned out to be much more than fine; each significantly bettering my skills, and even changing my relationship with music. Of the classes I took, my
And last but not least, the mammals should not be kept captive because they suffer from boredom. The next time you go to a marine park think about how the animals are
