In the novel MONSTER, written by Walter Dean Myers, tells the story of two men under the age of 25 on trial for felony murder. Steve Harmon is a 16 year old boy who is accused of being the lookout to a robbery that James King, a 22 year old and his friend Bobo Evans were planning. James King is accused of being the one that ripped Alguinaldo Nesbit’s gun from him and used it to shoot and kill Mr.Nesbit. Prosecutor Sandra Petrocelli works to convince the jury that their age isn’t an excuse that a man died at their hands. Kathy O’brien and Asa Briggs both work as the attorneys to prove that one of these men are innocent.
In the story Monkeyman, Walter Dean Myers tells a story about someone named Monkeyman living in Harlem when he angered a posse of which called themselves the Tigros. The Tigros went on to hunt monkeys, even waiting outside his school until they met at a park that night, where the conflict was peacefully resolved. Myers demonstrates that having the courage to take risks will be very beneficial for the people able to suppress their fear. One way that monkeyman illustrates this is when after going to buy a soda found people trying to hurt his friend as shown when the narrator states he saw the girl trying to cut Peaches and he ran out and knocked the blade from the girls hand. Clearly, if someone were to show weakness during adversity, there would be negative consequences in the future.

In society today there are young kids that do terrible things and they don't fully understand the extent of the matter. In the book “Monster” it tells the story of a young Steve Harmon, he planned a lookout that turned fatal but he had a change of heart. The people at the scene witnessed and could identify him as the lookout. He did not pull the trigger but he was involved in the crime. Steves name was mentioned when King and Evans were discussing the plans for the fatal crime.
