[Looking down below as the plane cruise down to land the clouds look like cotton balls with tiny toy buildings peeking out. My stomach was filled with butterflies. I can’t believe it. I am visiting the United States on a work visa with my band. I can’t believe it. As an Antiguan boy I dreamt of visiting the U.S to play my music. Looking out of the plane window I now can see New York skyline. Back home the American vacationers spoke about how tall the skyscraper were but now I can actually see them. Vere: Look at this. It is magnificent.
Tony: Yeah. I can’t believe that we are here.

We have a green card to play at the Palladium
We passed inspection and went into the arriving passengers areas. Someone tap me on the shoulder.
Sam: Are you Vere.
Vere: Yes.
Sam: I am Gerrie’s brother. You and your band will be staying with me. I have a car outside.
[The apartment was nice but I had 5 members in my band beside myself. We all can’t stay here .Two weeks passed and there was no work. Everyone was becoming frustrated.]
Sam: I got you a job at the Palladium. You start tomorrow.
Vere: GREAT! My dream is finally coming true.
[The people at the Palatium love I Caribbean music but the gig was only for 2 weeks. Another week past.]
Sam: You guys have to look for a place to stay and I know of a contracting job you can work at until you can find another gig.

Ms. Ola: You can make a living as a contractor.
Vere: I can now be picked up by the police and sent home a failure. I spent all of my money bring my band to America only to be told America has many bands. I will work with my hands. I will not go home a failure. I felt so alone scared, and abandoned.
Mrs. Ola: There is a call for you.
Vere: who can that be? Is it the authorities? Hello. Gerrie. I can’t believe it is you. Can we meet?
[Several months passed. I was no longer alone. I was in love with Gerrie. This evening I will propose to her at dinner.]
