The setting is also important when also interpreting the theme. Monster describes very little of it environment. All the reader is able to distinguish is that the monster lives in a forest surrounded by trees that bear fruit. There are very few other ‘monsters’ it encounters. Our environment can become our own worst enemy when it comes to knowledge. Everything we know we get from our parents, teachers, and religious organization. Sometimes, unintentionally, they block us from gaining more knowledge outside their traditional means. From a young age we are taught how to function in a society and what it good or bad. When we try to seek more knowledge our old teaching make us hesitate. We question if what we are looking or is right or immoral.
