Sometimes, it only takes one person to change a whole society. This person could make others realize the undiscovered joys. This is the case in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. This novel takes place in a future society that has new technology and books are made illegal. The book is about Guy Montag, a man who destroys books for a living. He soon realizes how special books are and tries to change people’s minds. Montag is a person who tries to fight the system and change people’s lives for the better. He is one example of someone trying to help civilization. Another example is from the movie Pleasantville by Gary Ross. Everyone needs another person to help them on their journey. Both David and Montag have people to help them on their journey. These are people who made David and Montag realize this mission is necessary. They are why the mission took place. Montag’s helper is seventeen year old Clarisse. Clarisse is a neighbor of Montag. She is a little odd and filled with fun stories her family has told her. Montag finds her interesting and fascinating. She is the one who helps Montag on his journey. Clariss helps him realize something about his life. She asks him, “Are you happy?”() This is a seemingly normal question, but it causes Montag to really think. He starts to think a lot about the life he has. Montag first tries to convince himself at first that he is happy. However, he soon realizes that he is just kidding himself. Montag then becomes fascinated by Clarisse due to her odd personality. She helped him realize what his life is like. Deep down, he already knew that his life was not great. Clarisse just helped him express these feelings. Clarisse is someone who helped Montag look at life through a different perspective. David had a person like this as well. David’s helper was his twin sister Jennifer. Jennifer was promiscuous, free spirited, and confident. She is basically everything Daniel is not. She was the one who helped Daniel realize the terrors of where they were. The moment the twins arrived in Pleasantville, she noticed immediately how boring and terrible the town was. She wanted to help the town and she had to let Daniel realize the problems with the town. At first, Daniel does not believe her. Soon, he realizes what Jennifer is talking about and he sees all of the town’s terrors. She was one reason why Daniel wanted to change the town. Jennifer showed Pleasantville’s true colors to Daniel.
