The little Old Testament book of Esther is a fascinating read. Yet there is one man that plays a key role in the account given in Scripture as to how the Jewish people were rescued from Haman’s vicious attack on the Jewish people. Mordecai can be contributed as the man that helped raise his orphaned relative, Esther, as she was young. As Mordecai saved Esther when she was younger, so would he save her as she grew older and was a Persian Queen. The account given in Esther tells that if it were not for Mordecai’s intercession concerning Haman’s genocidal conspiracy. The life and story of Mordecai is marked with God’s providence and bravery when it comes to fulfilling God’s will.

Not only was Mordecai praised for his bravery before the king, but also Esther. In fact, bother Esther and Mordecai not only risked their reputation, but their very life in trying to save the Jews from mass execution. The Jews saw God’s protection envelope them in their time of fear; a time in which God used Mordecai and Esther to fulfill His promise that He would watch over the Hebrews and take care of them in their time of need. God’s hand is clearly seen during the trial that the Jews faced in the book of Esther; however, it is no doubt that the Lord used Mordecai in a mighty way to liberate His people from an unlawful bondage enforced by wicked Haman. Mordecai is remembered as being the man that courageously stood up against a wicked man to defend the people of God. Nevertheless, even though Mordecai’s earthly reward was great, it can be guaranteed that his reward in heaven is far greater for the efforts he made during his life. Through all of the persecution and through all of the trials, Mordecai and Esther both remained faithful and hopeful that the Lord would provide a way of escape for them. That is exactly what God did; He saved Mordecai, Esther, and all His chosen
