Morning Joe is made up of three primary roles, Barista, Shift Lead, and Store Manager. The Barista role is responsible for daily operations which include: serving customers, maintaining cleanliness of the store, monitoring equipment and facilities, and receive and process customer payment. The Barista role is the face of the company as it the sole position responsible for customer engagement and general satisfaction and thus it is a critical position. The next role is the Shift Lead, who supervises the Baristas. Shift Leads are responsible for facilitating shift changes, problem-solving customer issues, leading and coaching Baristas, and maintaining consistent communication with Baristas and Store Manager. With the recent changes in minimum wage, Morning Joe must reevaluate the base pay compensation of Baristas, Shift Leads, Store Managers and District Managers. Upon the conclusion of local and national industry competitors it is proposed that Morning Joe adopt the following changes:
Baristas will receive a pay increase of 33.33% which raises their wage from $8.25/ hour to $11.00/hour
Shift Leads will receive a annual bonus of 5%
Store Managers will receive a annual bonus of 3%
District Managers will receive a annual bonus of 3%
In total, these changes in base pay will increase Morning Joe’s compensation cost by 6.48%. Additionally, the proposed changes in compensation are aligned with Morning Joe’s philosophy that Baristas are the heart of the company and deserve to be treated as such. Morning Joe also uses variable pay methods to attract its employees.
Morning Joe has developed into a competitive firm in the coffee industry and should have a Board of Directors to match. The current Board of Directors consists of the following members:
