“Turn around. Turn around. Turn the car around and get the hell out of here. Right now.”, Mort Rainey said to himself as the movie begins. If a movie oblige the lead actor to spend a lot of time onscreen talking to his self, it’s hard to do it unless you are Johnny Depp. His performance as the writer Mort Rainey is the highlight of the film ‘Secret Window’. Secret Window is a suspense thriller movie about a writer who is suffering from writer’s block which was triggered by a chaotic break-up of his marriage and the divorce proceedings. According to Rose (1984), writer’s block can be defined as an inability to begin or continue writing for reasons such as feelings of anxiety, frustration, anger or confusion. It was first introduced in the nineteen-forties by Edmund Bergler, a psychiatrist who studied writers suffered from neurotic inhibitions of productivity in order to determine why they were unable to create and what could be done about it.(Konnikova, 2016) When he first appeared onscreen, Mort Rainey is full of confusion, anger and sadness all at the same time. He is in the car in front of a hotel telling his self to turn around. But eventually, Rainey went inside the hotel and saw his wife with another man. As he reveal his self, there was writing on the wall saying ‘Shoot her’ from the name ‘Shooter’. Morty created shooter’s character because he doesn’t have the guts to do all the killings by himself. He was to suppose to fix the ending of his story. The story of his novel ‘Secret Window’ has a happy ending. It was a novel dedicated to his wife. And now that they’re getting divorce and he had a hard time to deal with the situation, Morty as Shooter killed his wife and the mistress and buried them in the garden his wife used to
