Richard Connell combines helplessness and foreshadowing to generate feelings of suspense. Throughout Most Dangerous Game suspenseful moments give readers helpless feeling for Rainsford, whom is unwillingly thrown off his boat and left stranded in the vast deep Caribbean. “The cry was pinched short as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean sea closed over his head” (15).
