The poem I read was Mother to Son by Langston Hughes. It was about a mother Talking to her son about her life. She talked about how her life wasn't easy but she still succeeded. She tells her son to not turn back and go through the challenge. If he ever gets stuck in a problem his mother is telling him to strive through and succeeded. The author developed the text using figurative language by saying no crystal stair. She says that her life is not easy with those words “life for me ain't been no crystal stair” because it has not been luxurious. She says this to her son to tell him to keep going if something happens. She later says that again that she still climbing even with her hard times “Cause you finds it’s kinder hard”“I’se been a-climbin’ on”. This shows how she didn't give up climbing the stairs of life. I felt that it had a good lesson and excellent word choice through the text. I believe this would be good in the curriculum because it doesn’t have many words but you can do a lot with the choice of words which can lead to lessons on how word choice impacts a novel. One of the many things I enjoy with this text is the figurative language. They keep on referencing a flight of stairs as your life and how you are always climbing the stairs or going through life. They say it may be easy and nice stairs or hard with many challenges and obstacles you have to go through to walk the stairs of life. My favorite part about the text was the important message it brings. It tells us to strive through the obstacles of life and not let them stop
