A new mine will be decided whether or not to be established near Mount Morgan, Queensland. Mount Morgan holds a rich history of mining for copper gold and silver. The mount Morgan mine was first active from 1882 and closed in 1981. Over its mining history, approximately 262 tonnes of gold was mined. It contains the population of 2,447 permanent residents (according to the 2006 census). Today, the mining sites of mount Morgan are a tourism sites which displays a variety of mine remains. Numerous factors will contribute to the decision of its establishment.
Uses of Gold
Gold is one of the world’s most vital and useful metal. Most commonly known use of gold would be in jewellery making but because of its qualities, that it will not tarnish and can conduct electricity, gold is also used in electronic devices. The common methods are aerial methods and on-site methods. Aerial methods are surveyed from aircrafts. There are different methods such as magnetic survey, gravity survey and electromagnetic survey. Magnetic surveys conduct an instrument called the magnetometer which can detect changes in the magnetic field. Another method is Gravity surveys which detects changes in the earth’s gravitational pull by using gravimeters. The final aerial method is Electromagnetic surveys which can detect ores that have strong electrical conductors. It can detect secondary field by a receiver. On-site methods investigate with more specific data. They include seismic surveys, geochemical surveys. Seismic uses shock waves to detect reflected sound waves, which a 3D image could be created by. Geochemical uses chemistry samples from the soil and rocks by drilling deep into the surface. Geologists observe these samples to search for minerals that may lead to gold
