Moving from Jordan to the United States
Moving from Jordan to the United States can be difficult. People leave their countries for many reasons, such as to work, study, and immigrate for a change in life. It is challenging to leave all the relatives, friends, and home; it is not easy to leave all that and travel to a new life with new people and places. People who decide to travel to the United States must learn many things about it; it is very different from Jordan, such as the language, traditions, and religions. In Jordan, the native language is Arabic, but in America, it is English. Most people in Jordan are Muslims, but in America, most are Christian. Muslim people must find a mosque to pray in America, and it is hard to find one in each town or nearby their houses because there are not many Arab people in America. According to Code Switch, “[o]ne-and-a-half million Americans today claim Arab ancestry, that’s less than 1 percent of the total U.S. population” (Hansi). Moving to the United States is challenging, because in Jordan, most women wear the hijab. The hijab for American people is strange, so American people will see Jordanian women as different from them because they are wearing it. Nevertheless, moving from Jordan to the United States teaches people to make new friends, plan, and adapt to different situations.
Moving teaches a person to make new friends. Friends form a big part of life, and they are the ones who walk through life together and share their joys and pains. People know making new friends in a new city is hard, especially when they speak another language, because they will not understand each other. People who move must adapt by changing their ideas because there is a difference between the two countries. When people move to another country, they will face much more complex situations. The most likely challenges they could face are the language barrier and finding a job. Loneliness is reasonable to feel lonely when moving to another country and away from friends and family, so they should expect to experience some sense of isolation. According to Max Stick, “Research suggests immigrants are one group that tend to report higher levels of loneliness; because of migration from one country to another, many experience social disruption and increased isolation….” Also, moving to The United States is challenging because they must find their favorite food and an international store to buy Jordanian groceries. Because many Jordanians are Muslims, so they do not eat bacon or drink alcohol because they are Muslims, and the Holy Quran says that some food is allowed. In contrast, others are explicitly declared haram, which means forbidden. When people move to another country, people need to know some of the main phrases of the country's language. Because if they do not know they cannot order food, buy groceries, and nobody will give them work. They must start a new life and face all the situations; they must adapt to meet new people, make friends, and build a support
