Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is considered one of the greatest composers, if not the greatest composer, ever born. With little or no exaggeration, it could be said that his amazing musical talents have never been met or exceeded since.
This great composer was born in Salzburg, Germany, in the year 1756, to Leopold and Anna Marie Mozart. Leopold Mozart came from a family of bookbinders, and he himself studied philosophy and law. However, this father of Mozart enjoyed the arts, and when he grew so involved in music, he was employed as a valet and musician. In 1743, he also was appointed as the 4th violinist in the court orchestra. By age five, young Mozart had already created a composition and played for the empress, Maria Theresa. First, he was asked by the Elector of Bavaria to compose an comedic opera for the Munich Carnival, and of course it would have been foolish for Count Colloredo to deny Mozart this great opportunity. Then, Count Colloredo improved his theater. One would think this is a good thing…except…he improved his visitor’s theater, but not the one for his court players, such as the Mozarts. This frustrated them, and asked to leave on a concert tour. They were refused, so left their positions and were now on their own. Mozart began a tour with his mother, and they headed to Mannheim. The reason Mozart wanted to go to Mannheim was Alloyisa Weber, a young, beautiful young lady, who sang beautifully. Mozart wanted to travel to Italy with Alloyisa, teaching her singing, but instead he continued his tour with his mother, going to Paris. Mozart made as much money as he could by giving lessons. He had no piano, and had to go to a friend’s house to practice. Because of their financial situation, Mozart and his mother could only afford poor rooms, and his mother was ill.
