As one decade passes to another, different value arises between generations. As represented in the story, “The Shining Houses”, Mrs.Fullerton is a very traditional character that does not favor change nor does she care or want the opinions of others. Meanwhile, the neighbors wish for everything to be newly renovated and very highly care about what other’s think about their lives. Therefore, in the story, there are two generations in conflict who both have very different clashing views towards what is important in life. Mrs. Fullerton is a very independent character who is satisfied with the way she lives her life. They do not want to be left out or stand out in a negative way. Additionally, the neighbors are very materialistic and want new items and moved into a neighborhood that looks very nice. Meanwhile, Mrs. Fullerton is not focused on the physical appeal of items. She does not find importance in having the newest gadgets or the nicest looking houses, as long as she has what she needs to survive, she is happy. In the story, we also read that Mrs. Fullerton is not focused on her physical appearance and does not feel the need to make herself look different, compared to the neighbors since that is their main goal is to look presentable. Furthermore, in the text, we read that the neighbors do not hesitate to remove Mrs. Fullerton from her home or acknowledge the significant impact it will have on her life. The neighbors are mistreating Mrs.Fullerton and in reality, they only care about helping the community members as long as it benefits them. This shows the views of the neighbors versus Mrs.Fullerton since the neighbors can be very heartless at times and not feel responsible for how their actions and how it will affect
