“What is love?” It’s a question people really don’t know the answer to. But, in Much Ado About Nothing, love is simply long standing and unconditional. Shakespeare showed us that the characters in this play were willing to do things for love, and this proves that the love was unconditional and long standing. In this play, there are many examples to prove that Beatrice and Benedick are in love. From words to actions, it is very easy to see that they love each other.
It is easy to see that Beatrice and Benedick love each other because of the words they use. Towards the end of the play, both Beatrice and Benedick professed their love for each other multiple times. In Act 4, scene 1, Beatrice asked Benedick to kill Claudio because she believed he wronged her of cheating. It was not morally right of her to ask him to do so, but for her it was. It was right to her, because she saw it as getting vengeance on Claudio. After she asked him this, he went to go threaten Claudio to prove his love for her. This truly shows how far Benedick would go to show his love to her. By making this promise, Benedick is showing Beatrice he loves her unconditionally because no matter how crazy she was for asking him to do something like that, he still would love her. Love is the intimacy people feel when they’re together. Later, on page 86, Benedick says to claudio, “ You are a villain. I jest not. I will make it good how you dare, with what you dare, and when you dare. Do me right, or I will protest your cowardice. You have killed a sweet lady, and her death shall fall heavy on you. Let me hear from you.” This shows that his love is unconditional and long standing because he stayed true to his word, and was willing to go so far and threaten his best friend for the girl he
