Reading may seem like an run of the mill thing where you laugh at the funny jokes, glare into the abyss when the text possess a provocative quote. To Mike Bunn the author of “How to Read Like A Writer,” has a different interpretation of what reading should be. Mike Bunn emphasizes that reading should be more than just context, he argues that you need to question the authors’ choice of words, literary devices, sentence placement, in order to be able to become better readers and writers ourselfs. He presents it to the audience in a manner that is very interactive. He begins by explaining what he means to “Read Like a Writer”(Bunn, How to Read Like A Writer), followed by questions that should be asked about the text and writing style, and techniques that should be done to become a more proficient writer.
By reading “How to Read Literature like a Professor” and “The Kite Runner”, the reader is aided in his or her ability to understand the true meanings behind the text. One is able to decipher how the act of coming together to eat can mean anything from a simple meal with family, to an uncomfortable situation that leads to anger or stress in an individual character. The reader is able to understand the use of rain or other weather in a novel to transform the mood and tone of scene, or understand the cleansing or destructive qualities that weather may have on the overall plot of the story. The use of illness can be transformed, as it can lead to the reader discovering veiled means behind tuberculosis, cholera, a simple cold, or even cancers such
In watching Dr. Bear's video it is apparent that the most commonly used strategy was creating challenges through questioning for both the teacher and the student. As Dr. Bear tried to figure out the student's general understanding of the subject matter and he encountered a word that he thought might be unfamiliar, he would simply stop and ask about it. For example, during the discussion prior to reading the book, one of the students suggested that Pandas have pouches, Dr. Bear paused to ask the students about the word pouch. The intricate series of interactions between Dr. Bear, students, and text in a self-reading reflects countless instructional decisions and the unique quality of the relationship that has been built between teacher and students.
Makayla is a use first sequence, which can be very beneficial as long as it’s not hindering her life or work. After reading her story it looks like she’s not using all of her patterns and gets stuck on one, she needs to take some risks and think outside the box to get stuff done. I don’t know exactly what her confluence score is but it looks like it’s a low one since she’s not using it, she needs to be using it as needed to help her with her school and life. John is a use first precise

This weeks, Chapter 5 was about discussing the different tactics that we as future educators, can use to help our students with achieving word recognition. Chapter 5’s main focus was strictly based on word recognition and phonics. The book lists different strategies for word recognition. These include: To develop a store of words that may be recognizable that is immediately on sight, by making the use of context clues that is surrounded, by a word, able to decode a word strictly, through phonics or sound-symbol associations, using structural analysis or even uses the part of the word to provide clues for recognition, and lastly, using a dictionary to look up words. Being able to use both semantic and syntactic clues can be very helpful.
The most difficult text based on this assignment was “How I Learned to Read and Write” by Frederick Douglas. Comparing all the text given, Frederick Douglas’s writing was more “wordy”. He seems to express his feeling, thoughts and emotions in complex abstracts that are very hard to follow. The vocabulary words used are more complicated – such as, commence – which leaves me no option than to open the dictionary. He often uses the word “commence” which means “start”.
This is learning by example it's very effective in the way that people will think

John Locke analyzes the various ways children are educated and states that they learn better “by example than rules” (Locke 133). He presents the idea that when children are young, it is not only parents and other adult figures that guide children, but various pieces of literature as well. Locke believes that reading is an essential part to a child’s education and the best way to start the child off is to begin with easy and interesting stories, such as fables. He promotes the use of Aesop fables because they are made to delight and entertain children, which makes it easier for them to retain what they read in their mind (Locke 276). Elizabeth Turner is an author of several cautionary tales, such as “The Giddy Girl” and “Dressed or Undressed.”

While traveling towards the path of seeping knowledge and analyzing critical ideals, we’ve become absent minded towards the components that gave us the ability to read. Since reading is always a part of our everyday routine, we have lost the idea that when it comes to learning how to read, we must start from the basics. From reading a case study, to reading a letter from a loved one, comprehension, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and oral language are the six essential components of reading. Before a child develops the ability to read, they begin to develop comprehension. Comprehension can be defined as the ability to understand.
